Bio In Brief:

Born in raised in Massachusetts, Michael grew up in the family boat business, started in 1953 by his Dad, Gerry Myers. Going to work with his Dad on Saturdays was something he always looked forward to: especially the first stop: breakfast at the Mayflower Diner in Quincy.

"I learned the business on the dock and boating from New England to Florida. Bringing a boat to Florida as a family always provided great adventures and once you are hooked, you can't imagine ever not being on the water" All those years of training, his Dad made sure Michael learned the business from the ground up; working the gas dock, the service and parts departments, painting bottoms, running the ships store, operating the Travelift, working boat shows and all the other aspects of the marina and boat sales business.

After graduation from Newton South High School, Michael attended Hofstra University and spent the last half of senior year commuting weekends to work at Boston Yacht Sales. After graduation, in 1975, no one was surprised when he chose to join the company full time. Michael's Dad eventually retired and 2015 marks Michael's 40th year at the helm of BYS.

In addition to Hatteras Yachts, Michael added to the new boat line up, increased the brokerage division, opened a second location, satellite locations and built relationships with marinas up and down the coast to offer authorized service centers to better serve customers wherever they boat.

"I've certainly seen changes in product, technology and business models but one thing still remains the same for me: the best part of my job is more than selling the product. It's the process; it's that moment when a person allows you to work with them, and more importantly to learn enough about them through the right questions, to help them choose which product would really be the best match for them. Oftentimes, people think they want one type or size of boat when another fits their needs better. Making sure they're happy on the water, that's the reward."

Michael and his wife Rhonda, raised their family in Cohasset MA for over 20 years while active in local volunteer organizations and community fundraisers. With their son now a teacher in Portland, Oregon and their daughter working in digital media in New York City, they relocated to the South End of Boston where they enjoy walking everywhere, especially to Red Sox games, and not raking leaves anymore. The golf clubs are always in the trunk of his car, just in case there's time for 9 holes somewhere and the winter skis sometimes get strapped to the roof, but heading out on a boating adventure still takes first place.

People often ask Michael if he's tired of going to the same job for 40 years, but he's not. "I look forward to it every day. I'm constantly meeting new people and enjoy our customers who have been with us for decades and many who have become friends. Between travel to regional and international boat shows, visiting our product factories, going to boat yards and marinas to check out trades and brokerage listings, every day is different.

When I am at my desk, you can't beat the view of the marina in any season. Few people are lucky to love what they do everyday, I know that and I appreciate every customer who has made it possible for us to successfully maintain our family business."

Michael is also a Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) from YBAA; a licensed and bonded Florida Yacht Broker, a member of the Yacht Brokers Association of America (YBAA), a member of the Florida Yacht Brokers Association (FYBA), a member of the Cape Cod Marine Trades Association and the Mass Marine Trades Association. He is a Past President of YBAA (Yacht Brokers Association of America); Past President of Toastmasters; Past Member, Board of Directors of the Coastal Conservation Association, former Volunteer, Cohasset Food Pantry and Boston Food Bank.  He, like his team of brokers, are constantly visiting the facilities of all the lines we represent; attends Hatteras University and holds the designation Hatteras Champion at Boston Yacht Sales.
