The History of Back CoveYachts & Boston Yacht
Back Cove Yachts was founded in 2003 as a sister company of Sabre Yachts.
A group of successful Sabre dealers, including Boston Yacht Sales owner/broker Michael Myers, requested a smaller Downeast style cruising boat to complement the Sabre line. The goal: a yacht with the look and feel of the Maine lobster boat and the dependability and fuel efficiency of a single diesel engine.
The Back Cove 29 was launched soon after, and so was a new brand. Boston Yacht Sales received hull #1 and remains an avid supporter and believer in the vision of the designers, builders and owners of Back Cove Yachts.
The success of the first Back Cove Yacht soon launched an award winning brand. Utilizing a focused production line method and vacuum infusion technology Back Cove Yachts reputation continues to lead the industry in 30′ to 41′ cruisers.
In 2018, Back Cove introduced the 34O, an outboard powered by a pair of Yamaha 300’s, with optional 350 hp Yamaha or Suzuki’s. It became an instant award winner beginning with 2018 Newport International Boat Shows Best New Powerboat Under 35 feet as well as winner of the show’s annual People’s Choice Award. She was followed in 2020, by the 39O which features the triple Suzuki 350’s with additional power choices available.
Currently, more than 1,000 Back Coves can be found in harbors from New England to California to Australia. In fact, Back Cove Yachts have found their way to almost every body of water around the world.
Back Cove Yachts are built by 200 of Maine’s finest boat builders in a modern in Rockland, Maine. Back Cove associates continuously demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of their role and its influence on the final product.
