Bio In Brief:
Joyce has been power boating and sailing since she was a child. Her Dad was one of the founding fathers of the Wild Harbor Yacht Club (WHYC) in North Falmouth in 1950. Growing up summers it was not unusual for the Richards family to own up to 5 power and sail boats at one time, so no wonder she has such an affection for boating.
Born in Dorchester, MA she then attended K-4 in Falmouth MA and grades 5-12 at Newton South High School. Her summers in New Silver Beach/Wild Harbor hold the best boating memories for her - and she frequently refers to them as "those happiest of days." As a child she raced Beetle Cats, Classic Herreshoff 12 ½'s and Widgeons at WHYC.
She attended Fitchburg State and received her AS in Marketing & Retail at Garland Jr. College. Joyce was a Regional Claims Supervisor in charge of the Auto Physical Damage Division of Amica Mutual Insurance for many years, received her real estate license, but her love of the water encouraged her to also become a yacht broker and her next career was born.
For the first nine years she focused on sport fishing boats between 33-50' for a regional yacht sales company and received her 100 Ton Coast Guard Captain's License.
Eventually, she returned to Falmouth as a ‘year rounder' which offerd her a way to be around boats ALL the time: and - lucky for us, she joined our team! A member of the Falmouth Yacht Club since 1978, and based out of Falmouth, you will often find her on the water enjoying her own boat
Joyce's boats over the past 35 years have included a 24' Sea Ray, 23' Formula, 31' Sea Ray, 280S Formula, 21' Aqua Sport, 24' Formula and currently she's zooming around in a 29ZF Donzi Center Console. She likes to mix it up!
Her favorite spots are Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay. While you might see her hanging out on MV at Lake Tashmoo relaxing, you are more apt to see her scooting to Edgartown for lunch at the rooftop Shanty, or underway exploring every harbor and boat yard she can find.
Her enthusiasm and love of boating is contagious: this is what we hear most from her customers. Along with the fact that when they work with Joyce, they know she is working hard for them to make it all happen for them the way it should. Many a client has told us, with her dedication, persistence and focus on detail, they felt like they were buying a 3 million dollar yacht and the most important client she'd ever had. As Joyce has often said "I don't care what size or year or model someone can afford - if I can make it happen for them and get them on the water enjoying boating - that boat IS a million dollar yacht to them - and me!" When clients sign those final papers, she wants it to be for a boat they will enjoy more than even they ever imagined.
Joyce is located at our Falmouth office at MacDougall's Cape Cod Marine, 53 Falmouth Heights Road, Falmouth, MA
