Bio In Brief:
Curt grew up on the Rocky Bluffs of Lake Michigan and spent summers on the shores of Lake Winnebago and Egg Harbor, Wisconsin. As a child, days were spent on the beach, water skiing and as he says, “generally mucking around” on sailboats, small skiffs, powerboats and hydroplanes - anything that had to do with the water. A lifelong outdoorsmen was born. Curt says, "that first sighting of a 13’ Boston Whaler in1965 made a lasting impression on me and boating became my number one passion."
During college, one of his friends had a relative with a boat service company and you can guess where that led: he spent summers delivering boats along the eastern shore from Miami to New York City. After Graduating from University of Wisconsin, he went to work in Institutional Real Estate in Chicago, but again worked his way to the east coast and Boston. He was Regional Director and Senior VP of JMB/Urban Investment and Development Company, overseeing 22 billion in real estate assets throughout the Northeast. He was responsible for such landmark developments as Copley Place, 116 Huntington Avenue in Boston and CityPlace II in Hartford CT and several major developments in Washington DC. Curt became a partner and remained with them until the company was sold in 1996.
Relocating at that time to his summer home on Cape Cod was an easy decision. He decided to turn his passion into avocation and started The Sporting Life/Orvis, one of the largest fly fishing outdoor specialty shops in the Northeast. Curt taught the Cape Cod Saltwater Fly Fishing School for 8 years with well known author Lou Tabory (Stripers On The Fly and Inshore Fly Fishing). He also organized fly fishing trips to the Bahamas. In 2004, Curt sold The Sporting Life.
In 2006, Curt bought Sea Tow on Cape Cod and his efforts resulted in it becoming one of the larger Sea Tow franchises in the Northeast. In May of 2017, Curt sold Sea Tow and joined Boston Yacht Sales as a full time yacht broker. He will continue to make his home on Cape Cod with his wife Ali, daughter Natalie and their amazing four-legged sidekick, a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon named Maize, who originally hailed from a corn farm on the Maine/New Brunswick border.
Curt holds a USCG 100 Ton Masters License with radar and towing endorsments.
As an avid fly fisherman, he has enjoyed almost two dozen trips to the Bahamas chasing bonefish and tarpon. He's owned over 20 boats so far in his lifetime including Boston Whalers, Laser, Parker, Jones Brothers, Action Craft, Zodia, HBI, and an assortment of tin boats, flats skiffs and rescue boats. He also enjoys skiing, upland hunting and is a former private pilot.
Some of his favorite destinations include the Elizabeth Islands, Hadley's Harbor, Woods Hole, Waquoit Bay, Falmouth MA, Anguilla, St Martin, Dutch Antilles and Andros Island, Bahamas. One of his more memorable experiences will always be delivering a sailing vessel from Tropeo, Italy to Genoa, Italy in the Mediterranean.
His life and work experiences provide a wealth of information he can share with our customers and he looks forward to once again turning a passion - his love of boats and the water - into a career.
Look for Curt aboard "Hardtail" his Jones Brothers Marine, 1910 Light Tackle Edition enjoying a day on the water fishing for striped bass and false albacore or gunk holing and spending the day with his family.
